Editorial and Design Services

Palladian designs and produces just about every electronic and print product imaginable. We create websites, fact sheets, newsletters, posters, street banners, advertisements, logos, slides, product packaging, reports, manuals and conference summaries. Some of these print materials are for a general audience, while others are for scientists and are highly technical.

Following are brief descriptions of some of Palladian's editorial and design projects:

Identity Products

National Institute of Justice (NIJ)
Palladian developed an identity for NIJ that communicates the importance of research to the justice community. We conducted interviews with NIJ staff, facilitated brainstorming sessions, and then created an identity that could be graphically translated to all of the Institute’s publications, its website, and a CD.

Developmental Therapeutics Program
Palladian created an identity for the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Developmental Therapeutics Program, a resource for cancer researchers across the country. This identity project involved creating a family of products, including a logo, website, brochure, 10’ exhibit, banner stand display, CD-ROM packaging, and collateral materials such as mouse pads and T-shirts to distribute at conferences.

Breast Cancer Think Tank
Palladian designed and created identity materials for an innovative NCI scientific exchange pilot program, the Breast Cancer Think Tank. Palladian developed the logo concepts and a family of products for the program, which continues today as the Breast Cancer and Gynecologic Malignancies Faculty.

President’s DNA Initiative design concept
Palladian created an overall design concept for the President’s DNA Initiative, which is aimed at improving the use of DNA in the criminal justice system. Under a contract with NIJ, Palladian created an identity system for the Initiative’s publications and its website. We developed a color palette for the Initiative partners within the Department of Justice and a template file for publications.

TriService Nursing Research Program communications products
Palladian designed a unified family of communications products, including a brochure, banner stand displays, and website for the TriService Nursing Research Program. The Program is part of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and funds military nursing research.

Promotional Materials

NIJ Timeline: Ahead of the Curve
A version of this timeline first appeared in the NIJ 2004 Annual Report, another award-winning design by Palladian. Due to the timeline’s popularity, NIJ asked Palladian to produce a stand-alone promotional brochure that highlights the Institute’s past initiatives as well as its continued efforts to help practitioners, researchers, and policymakers find solutions to prevent and combat crime.

John E. Fogarty International Center (FIC) multimedia exhibit
This project involved gathering together FIC's senior staff and director to discuss the exhibit’s purpose and the vision of FIC’s leadership vis-à-vis the display. Palladian used the information to create three designs, all of which met their expectations. FIC had to call a second meeting and hold a vote on which design they liked the best. The exhibit, which features an automated PowerPoint presentation, is on permanent display in Building 31 on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus.

Avon-NCI Progress for Patients Awards Program brochure
Palladian wrote, edited, designed, and printed the Avon-NCI Progress for Patients Awards Program brochure, which highlights breast cancer clinical trials funded jointly by the Avon Foundation and NCI. The brochure is being disseminated at Avon Walk for Breast Cancer events nationwide from spring through fall of 2005. Palladian also worked on this project in 2004 and will be designing a new brochure for 2006.

Meeting Planning and Management

Palladian plans and manages meetings and conferences from beginning to end. Since 1997, our conference team has organized more than 1,000 scientific meetings. Support services include conference promotion, development of conference websites and meeting materials, online registration, teleconferencing, travel and lodging arrangements, onsite logistics including audiovisual equipment setup, reporting and transcription, conference report writing, and dinners, tours and other special events. We can also arrange videocasting and virtual meeting participation.

Palladian's Conference Management System is an integrated, web-enabled data solution that allows staff and clients to plan and launch new meeting websites quickly and inexpensively. Developed to meet the specific needs of government-sponsored meetings, the system has many timesaving tools and features for both our clients and our meeting planners.

Some promotional materials designed by Palladian for our clients' meetings appear below:

NIJ’s Ninth Crime Mapping Research Conference Program
The Crime Mapping Research Conference attracts researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from across the country to explore geographic principles and how they can be used to prevent and reduce crime. Palladian planned, managed, and provided logistical support for the 2007 conference. We also designed a brand/identity that will be used on future conference marketing materials.

Website Design, Development, and Management

Palladian designs, develops, and manages a wide variety of websites and web-enabled databases. We provide hosting, write content, or program interactive features for most of the websites that appear below.

Website Design

Center for Cancer Research (CCR) website
Palladian rewrote and designed CCR's website and portions of the Center’s Intranet. Our writer worked with the communication staff at CCR to develop an audience-based, user-friendly website that highlighted CCR’s basic and translational research breakthroughs. We started by suggesting changes to the site’s architecture. Following architecture approval, we wrote more than 200 pages of original content. CCR later asked Palladian Partners to redesign the website's graphical interface.

Share the Health website
Palladian created consumer-oriented English- and Spanish-language marketing materials over the past three years for Share the Health, a community health exposition sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Work has included designing and developing a website, flyers, posters, programs, buttons, and bags.
