Poster Abstract/Summary Submissions

Submission Deadline: May 10, COB

The abstract/summary deadline has passed. No further submissions will be accepted.

Share with others the good news about the work being done in various communities around the country! Advocacy and community organizations as well as NCI staff are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract/summary that includes information about their organization's mission, audience served, specific programs, and activities/efforts. The abstract/summary should form the basis of a poster that will be displayed throughout the Summit and that you will present during the Poster Picnic on June 20. Advocates will be offered a 4-foot x 4-foot space on a push-pin friendly, pre-assembled poster board display.

Information sharing is the important element in the Poster Picnic. This is not a competition. No awards will be given. Posters are not expected to be high-gloss, expensive, or fancy. Be creative! A poster could consist of:

  • Photos with captions.
  • Flyers from programs.
  • Copies of newsletters.
  • Letters of commendation.
  • Text from your organization's Web site.
  • Documents that explain your organization's goals and mission.

Formatting your abstract/summary
Please use the following convention for naming your file:

  • Include the name of your organization and the word "summary."
  • Do not use all caps or acronyms.
  • Be sure to use the suffix ".doc" for a Word document or ".wpd" for WordPerfect.

Please format the file as follows:

  • Put the organization's name first, before any title. Entries will be ordered and indexed alphabetically in the Program Booklet.
  • Do not use all caps.
  • Insert one blank line after the title.
  • Write for a general audience; Summit attendees come from varied backgrounds.
  • Use acronyms as rarely as possible, always define them on first use.
  • Please keep your summary to 250–300 words, single-spaced, in 12-point Times Roman font. Use 1-inch margins all around the page.

Please send a summary of your poster as an attachment to an e-mail and not in the body of the e-mail. Then, follow up the e-mail with a fax. Also, please indicate on the registration form that your organization would like to present a poster at the Summit. All summaries received by the deadline from registered attendees will be included in the Program Booklet. We will send confirmation by fax or e-mail. (Please indicate a preference on the registration form.)
